BRIEF
Gamuda Cove is a sprawling 1,530-acre township, a nature sanctuary that is envisaged to be a smart & sustainable city. Located next to Paya Indah Wetlands, it is also Malaysia’s 5-Diamond Low Carbon city. FW’s task for this project was to provide master-planning for the township’s vehicular traffic circulation wayfinding, taking cognizance of its immediate requirement to accommodate completed development components as well as those targeted for completion in the next 3 - 5 years. We were also tasked to improve existing signage at certain areas of the township, which were not effective due to various reasons, namely size & non-consideration of amount of messaging content. CHALLENGE Many of the township’s development components were still under the planning stages & roads &/or traffic direction of on such roads within the township were temporary in nature. |
SOLUTION
A thorough study of the current & future traffic circulation, size of the roads, decision-making points, development components’ planned completion timelines was conducted & the appropriate strategy was established for the client’s consideration & onwards application. Given the size of the roads & the amount of end destinations required by the client, extensive engagement distance studies were also conducted, simulating speed of travel, time required to digest & react to messaging content, as well as determination of the appropriate sizing of a given sign type to be useful to its intended user(s). Many of the signs required to be effective, & proposed by us, were similar to those used on highway travels, with mostly gantries & cantilever design structures being applied where necessary, based upon JKR specifications as the minimum. |

In addition, road marking treatments were also mooted. This is FW’s standard best practice, where wayfinding solutions must be user-centric. In support of Gamuda Cove’s visual brand identity design, the graphics treatment on the messaging panels, including the color scheme & motives / patterns, was developed to provide a seamless brand & continuous brand experience to visitors, guests & residents of the township. This is also a key FW approach, where design is heavily skewed towards being brand-centric. We are hopeful that the client adopts our proposed solution as a complete solution so that the wayfinding journey of its intended users & by extension, their overall brand experience of Gamuda Cove, is not only positive, but also effective & pleasant. |
